Andy Díaz (born December 25, 1995 ) is a Cuban athlete who specializes in the triple jump .

Athletic career

Andy Díaz first competed in national triple jump competitions in 2013 at the age of 17 and achieved the greatest distance with 15.63 m. During the 2014 season he was able to improve steadily and qualified for the U20 World Championships in Eugene in July . In his qualification group he made it into the final with the greatest distance, in which he climbed again to 16.43 m and in the end took fourth place. 2015 appeared at the North American Championships for the first time in an international championship among adults. At the competition in San José, he finished fifth. In the 2016 season, he mainly competed in national competitions.

In March 2017 he set his best performance of 17.40 m in Havana and then traveled to the World Championships in London. With the third best distance in his qualification group, he qualified for the final. There he increased, compared to the qualification, again up to 17.13 m with which he landed in seventh place. In spring 2018 he competed at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham. This was his first indoor competition on an international level. With 15.37 m he failed in the qualification. In June 2019 Díaz won the bronze medal with 16.83 m at the Pan American Games in Lima. At the subsequent World Championships in Doha, he did not survive qualification.
