Andrew "Andy" Griffiths (born September 3, 1961 in Melbourne ) is a multi-award-winning Australian children's author and comedy writer . The television animation series Typisch Andy! Is based on one of his book series . which is running successfully in nine countries.

Life

Griffiths' career began as a singer. In the 1980s he was successful with rock bands such as Gothic Farm and Skippy The Butcher . In 1992 he turned to book writing. He wrote six novels and several short stories . Griffiths is best known for his Just! which he has been writing since 1997. So far he has written nine books on this series. In 2001 these books became a television series, which he wrote What's with Andy? called.

In 2008 he and his wife Jill joined the critically acclaimed Bell Shakespeare Company on their tour entitled Just Macbeth! , which was nominated for two Helpman Awards . In July 2010, the completely sold out tour was concluded with a farewell performance at the Sydney Opera House before heading to Europe . The Edinburgh Fringe Festival also received favorable reviews. The book Just Macbeth resulting from this collaboration was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Literary Awards in 2010 . In July / August 2012 the piece was put back into the program in Sydney .

In April 2012, Griffith's tenth book entitled Just Doomed! out. The author is currently working with his illustrator and graphic artist friend on a work for teachers and aspiring writers on Once Upon a Slime: 52 fun ways to get writing… fast! , in a sense a vivid version of creative writing due for release in 2013.

The writer volunteers for reading and leisure programs for the Aborigines . All of his proceeds from The Naked Boy & The Crocodile (2011) went to the budget of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation , which is primarily supported by the Australian publishing industry. Andy Griffiths also serves as an ambassador for the Pajama Foundation , a mentoring organization that aims to improve the reading and education of foster and orphaned children.

Typical Andy! was first broadcast in Germany by Fox Kids and later ran on Super RTL , Disney XD (formerly Jetix ) and in Austria on ORF eins (formerly ORF 1).

Awards

In 2008, Griffiths became the first Australian children's author to sing for Just Shocking! was awarded six selection prizes alone. In doing so, he exceeded the record he set himself for The Bad Book in 2005. Over the years, he has received around 40 children's book prizes.
