Andrew R. "Andy" Jassy (born January 13, 1968 in Scarsdale , New York ) is an American businessman and CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS). He is also a minority owner of the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League . Jassy has been involved in the development of Amazon Web Services (AWS) since it was founded in 2006. Jassy to replace Jeff Bezos as CEO of Amazon in Q3 2021; Bezos becomes Executive Chairman .

Early life and education

Jassy was born to Margery and Everett L. Jassy in Scarsdale, a suburb of New York City . His father was a senior partner at Dewey Ballantine corporate law firm in New York and chaired the firm's management committee. Jassy's parents are Jews of Hungarian descent. Jassy grew up in Scarsdale and attended Scarsdale High School .

Jassy graduated with Honors from Harvard College , where he was the Advertising Director at Harvard Crimson , before earning an MBA from Harvard Business School .

In 2017, Jassy was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Career

After graduating, Jassy worked as a project manager for a collectibles company, MBI, before completing his MBA. In 1997 he joined Amazon as Marketing Manager. In 2003 he founded Amazon Web Services (AWS) with a team of 57 employees. In April 2016, Jassy was promoted from Senior Vice President to CEO of AWS.

In 2016 Jassy earned 36.6 million dollars . In 2020, Jassy received base compensation of $ 175,000 for his work as CEO of AWS and a Restricted Stock Unit award of 4,023 Amazon shares (valued at $ 12,104,844.93 as of July 26, 2020), which are vested from 2023. He also received a Restricted Stock Unit award in April 2018 of 10,000 shares (valued at $ 30,089,100 as of July 26, 2020) that will vest in various proportions between 2021 and 2024. Personal life

In 1997, Jassy married Elana Rochelle Caplan, a fashion designer for Eddie Bauer and a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.
