from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andy White (born July 27, 1930 in Glasgow , Scotland , † November 9, 2015 in Caldwell ) was a British drummer.

Life

Born in 1930 as the son of a baker, White began playing drums at the age of twelve. In the 1950s he played in various swing and jazz bands .

His best-known recording is the Beatles' single Love Me Do , on which he played instead of Ringo Starr on September 11, 1962 , as the Beatles producer George Martin was not satisfied with the previous drummer Pete Best and Ringo Starr was not yet introduced to George Martin . He can also be heard on the B-side of this single ( PS I Love You ) instead of Ringo Starr. The recording with Ringo Starr and the recording with Andy White of Love Me Do were released, which differ only insignificantly.

In the years that followed Andy White played with Herman's Hermits and Tom Jones, among others . He also accompanied a tour with Marlene Dietrich .

Most recently White lived in New Jersey , where he worked as a drum teacher.
