Life

During her studies in philosophy and literature, she was involved in the field of “creative writing”. Her special interest is the tradition of exclusively orally passed on experiences and myths, as in the culture of the Indians, the Aborigines, the storyteller in Arab countries or in Africa, Europe and the United States of oral history . She traveled to India, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, the USA, the Caribbean islands, Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and South Korea. The experiences became the inspiration for poems, short stories, novellas, short stories, haiku and essays . Angela Hoffmann described the encounter with Floyd Westerman and the Findhorn Foundation in the story Under the Magnolia Tree .

Her stay in Lebanon inspired her to translate Jason Leen 's The Death of the Prophet / Die Heimkehr des Propheten , published as a sequel to Khalil Gibran's The Prophet and In the Garden of the Prophet under the title Khalil Gibran: Die Propheten-Bücher, Goldmann Taschenbuch -Publishing company.

In 1974 Angela Hoffmann, after having published texts in the literary magazine Die Horen , was accepted into the Association of German Writers , where she was supported by the author Ingeborg Drewitz . In 1988 she performed together with Günter Grass , Herta Müller , Leonie Ossowski a . a. from the VS out. In 1992 she accused Bernt Engelmann , who was sitting next to her, on the NDR talk show, that during his time as VS chairman, authors who thought differently had been silenced with "inhuman methods". Henryk M. Broder documents the German / German problems in the writers' association using the example of Wolf Biermann's expatriation in his book “Mercy with the Germans” on the occasion of a controversial discussion between Angela Hoffmann and the former GDR Minister Klaus Höpcke, Peter O. Chotjewitz, Bernt Engelmann and Hermann Kant in Berlin 1992.

Angela Hoffmann works as a lecturer in creative writing and storytelling for biography work. Together with the kendo teacher Klaus Grelewicz, she developed seminars on the subject of “Kendo Haiku Zen ” and is involved in the Hanover-Hiroshima Society.
