Angela Richter (born March 9, 1952 in Dresden ) is a German Slavist , literary scholar and translator.

Life

After completing an apprenticeship with a high school diploma as a transport clerk, Angela Richter completed a degree in language mediation ( Serbo-Croatian , Russian ) at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 1971 to 1975 , which was followed by a postgraduate course in literature ( Belgrade , Berlin ). From 1978 to 1994 she worked as a research assistant and senior assistant at the Institute for Slavic Studies at Humboldt University, where she worked primarily in the field of Serbo-Croatian Studies (literary and cultural history, linguistics) and the theory and practice of translation. She did her doctorate with a thesis on the Serbian social literature of the interwar period (1980) and completed her habilitation in 1991 as a Dr. sc. with the monograph "Serbian prose after 1945. Development tendencies and novel structures".

In October 1994 she was appointed professor for South Slavic Studies (with a focus on literature) at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . Angela Richter has taught as a guest at various universities in Germany and abroad, for example in 1999 she was visiting professor at the University of Sarajevo . She is co-editor of the SLAVICA VARIA HALENSIA series (since 1997) and is on the advisory board of several specialist journals. In addition to her academic work, she works as a translator from Serbian, Bosnian and other South Slavic languages. In 2016 she was elected a member of the learned society Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin . On the occasion of her 65th birthday and her farewell from university, Angela Richter was welcomed in spring 2017 with the commemorative publication “(Southeast) Europe. Narrative of Movement ”.
