Angelo Rizzoli (1889-1970)

Angelo Rizzoli (born October 31, 1889 in Milan , † September 24, 1970 ibid) was an Italian film producer , publisher and entrepreneur .

Life

In 1927 he founded A. Rizzoli & Co, which later became the Italian media company RCS MediaGroup . In 1927 he acquired the Italian women's magazine Novella from Mondadori . In the following years he bought other magazines such as Annabella, Bertoldo, Candido, Omnibus and Oggi e L'Europeo . From 1949 he published books. In 1954 he acquired the company Cartiera the Lama the Reno . As an entrepreneur, he went to Milan in 1960, where he set up his professional center on Via Civitavecchia .

In addition to his professional work in the Italian press and book landscape, he was also involved in Italian film production. He has produced films by Federico Fellini such as La Dolce Vita and Eight and Half . In 1964 he opened the Rizzoli International Bookstore in New York's Fifth Avenue , which has featured in various Hollywood films, including Woody Allen's Manhattan and Falling In Love with Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep . He also produced the controversial documentary Africa Addio . Rizzoli married Anna Marzorati (1890–1976) and had two children.

In the Italian town of Lacco Ameno there is a museum about his life and work in the Villa Arbusto. In addition to several hotels such as the " Villa Svizzera " and "Villa Manzi", Rizzoli also had the luxury hotel "Regina Isabella" built in 1956 and donated the "Anna Rizzoli" hospital in Lacco Ameno.
