Anglican Church in Bad Kissingen

The Anglican Church in the Bavarian state bath Bad Kissingen existed from 1862 until it was demolished in 1968.

Numerous spa guests and summer visitors from Great Britain were the reason why the first thoughts on building an Anglican church in Bad Kissingen were made around the middle of the 19th century . After appeals for donations in the local press and further actions by a church committee, donations came from guests and patrons. Committee chairman George Tomlinson (1794–1863), as Bishop of Gibraltar responsible for all believers living or traveling abroad, and the Italian-born British doctor Augustus Bozzi Granville (1783–1872) as secretary were responsible for the administration and use of the collected donations.

On August 24, 1862, the church building on the corner of Salinenstrasse and Maxstrasse was consecrated after seven years of construction. The towerless building in the romanticizing neo-Gothic style had a cruciform floor plan and was vertically structured by branch pillars. The costs, which were covered by donations before the opening, amounted to 1,350 British pounds . The complete equipment such as the painting of the ceiling and the wrought iron fence could also be financed by later donations. Trustee Granville also hired a minister with a monthly salary of £ 15. The organist Gould collected further donations after the services. Salaries and all other expenses could be covered by these ongoing donations.

The First World War caused a slump, later the spa guests coming from Great Britain were absent, so that there was no longer any need for church services. In 1953 the Protestant parish bought the Anglican church with the intention of converting it into a parish house. A year later it was actually used as a makeshift house. However, the foundations soon showed severe damage , so that by 1965 the southern gable wall increasingly sloped towards Maxstraße .

Eventually the building was demolished in 1968. The Evangelical Church built a new parish hall in its place.
