An attack , especially in the military sector, also an attack (verbs: to attack, to attack), denotes:
- generally the attempt to actively expand one's own sphere of influence or to proactively defend one's own way of life
- the theft of research results, see industrial espionage
- in strategy games in general the measure of the side that is acting, see forehand and afterhand

in biology:
- pests and pathogens attack the physiological control circuits of crops, animals and humans
- hunt down predators prey for food
- harmful organisms trigger plant diseases and endanger the harvest of crops
- Pests steal or destroy food supplies and dwellings for other living things
