Anita Lizana
Anita Lizana de Ellis (sometimes also Anna ... , born November 19, 1915 in Santiago de Chile , † August 21, 1994 in Ferndown , Dorset (UK)) was a tennis player from Chile .
Her father was a groundskeeper at the German tennis club in Santiago's Quinta Normal district . His brother Aurelio was the best tennis player in Chile of his generation, according to the myth, but could not show his skills internationally because the financial possibilities in the amateur environment were not given. For Anita, who also had several talented sisters, a collection was organized so that she could go to Europe.
She won the US tennis championships (today: US Open ) in 1937 . In the final in Forest Hills , she won against Poland's Jadwiga Jędrzejowska 6: 4 and 6: 2. This made her the first and to date (2017) only Chilean woman to win a Grand Slam tournament in women's singles.
In England she married an Englishman, Mister Roland Ellis, and eventually stayed in England forever.
