Anita Sarawak (born March 23, 1952 ) is a singer , entertainer , actress and cookbook author .

biography

Originally from Singapore, Sarawak is the daughter of director and actor Roomai Noor and actress Siput Sarawak . She began her career at the age of 16 with an appearance on a TV variety show Yusof Ahmad on Singapore television. Here she was discovered by AMI and subsequently recorded her first soul record in English. However, at the age of 14 she had already acted in a film. On November 21, 1981, she appeared in the Federal Republic of Germany as a guest on the ARD Saturday evening show One will win . In 1985 she moved to the USA, where she worked for over 14 years at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Here she performed with her band American Dream . During this time she also gave concerts in Asia. In 2001 she returned to Singapore. Since then she has appeared in various films and is still musically active. She also hosts the talk show The Anita Talkshow . Another mainstay of the artist is her own jewelery creation called The Anita Sarawak Cinta Collection . She also drew attention to herself as the author of a cookbook ( "Anita Sarawak Cooking with Love" ). She hit the headlines in September 2009 when she and her husband were mugged in Kuala Lumpur .

Sarawak married the musician Mohamad Abdul Samad in 1972 and the Indonesian actor Broery Marantika in 1981. In 1995 she married the American JD Nicholas, saxophonist with the Commodores . All marriages ended in divorce, the last in 2000.
