Anja Wicker (born December 22, 1991 ) is a paraplegic German disabled athlete in the field of Nordic skiing . In addition, she starts in the handbike in summer .

Career

Wicker celebrated her first successes in winter 2009/10. So she secured a total of three titles at the German Championships in Isny im Allgäu . In addition to the sprint, she also won the middle-distance race and the individual race in the biathlon. In the World Cup, Wicker started biathlon for the first time in Oberried a little later . She finished seventh over the short distance, but fell back to eighth in the following pursuit. Over the 10 km in Bessans she was tenth.

In the 2010/11 season she secured three silver medals at the German Championships. At the World Cup finals in Finsterau she reached two fourth and one fifth place. At the following world championship, she finished fourth in the sprint and seventh over 10 km in biathlon.

For the 2011/12 season Wicker achieved her first podium finish in Sjusjøen with third place in the cross-country sprint. At the following German championships she won three titles again after 2010. At the World Cup in Minneapolis she was on the podium in the middle distance as well as in the sprint at the end. A little later, in Cable, she celebrated her first World Cup victory over the 10 km distance. She celebrated another victory a little later in Vuokatti . In the overall World Cup ranking, Wicker came second in cross-country skiing and third in biathlon.

In the 2012/13 season she again won the cross-country skiing race in Cable and again won three titles at the German championships.

At her first Winter Paralympics in Sochi in 2014 , Wicker surprisingly won her first gold medal in the biathlon over 10 km seated due to a faultless shooting. Even sitting in the 12.5 km biathlon, she again achieved a silver medal with faultless shooting. For her achievements at these Paralympic Games she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Joachim Gauck .
