history

The event location with hall "Zum golden Anker" was built in 1873 by Carl August Wehse and served as a concert and ball house. The building of today's anchor was built in the 1940s on a single story. In the 1960s, a second floor and an extended roof structure were added to the building.

After the Second World War , the building became the property of the city and was used as a municipal youth club from 1959 to 1991. In 1991, within the framework of the model project “Municipal Clubhouses in Independent Sponsorship”, the complex was handed over from the Leipzig City Cultural Office to the Anker eV

The Leipziger Knopstrasse begins at the anchor, the first section of which was renamed Renftstrasse on October 9, 2007, the first anniversary of Klaus Renft's death .
