Anna Herbst (born December 8, 1985 in Bensberg ) is a German opera singer (soprano).

Life

Anna Herbst was born in Bensberg near Cologne and grew up in Cologne.

She gained her first singing experience at the age of seven in the choir of the Cologne composer and church musician Heinz-Martin Lonquich. In 2004 she was accepted as a young student at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and studied first with Henner Leyhe, from 2005 with Josef Protschka, and graduated in 2010 with a diploma in artistic training (opera and concert singing) and vocal pedagogy . This was followed by a master’s degree in opera singing with Kai Wessel at the HfMT Cologne, which she graduated with "very good" in September 2012, as well as a postgraduate course as a Master of Music Baroque singing at the Institute for Early Music Cologne, which she also completed in 2014 with "very good" .

Anna Herbst received a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, was a prizewinner at the national singing competition in 2006 and a finalist in the HfMT Cologne song competition in 2013. To complete her training, she took part in numerous master classes at home and abroad; among others with Edita Gruberová , Silvana Bartoli-Bazzoni, Paul Agnew, the Lautten Compagney Berlin, Sissel Hoyem-Aune, Kristina Laki , Arthur Janzen, Hellen Kwon , Jeanne Piland and Karl Kammerlander.

Anna Herbst's concert activities have already taken her to the Cologne Philharmonic ( Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach, 2014; Beatus Vir by Antonio Vivaldi, 2012), to the Tonhalle Düsseldorf ( King Arthur after Henry Purcell, 2013) to the Bochumer Kammerspiele ( Arlecchina und der Edelmann von Lully / Molière, 2013), the Beethoven-Haus Bonn as well as to concerts in France, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

On the opera stage, she embodied numerous roles, the stylistic spectrum of which ranges from early Baroque to Mozart to contemporary literary opera , including Pamina in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Junge Oper NRW, Michaela in Bizet's Carmen at the Opernloft Hamburg, and Euridice in Charpentier's La descente d'Orphée aux enfèrs at the Aachen Theater and a bridesmaid in Weber's Freischütz at the Cologne Opera .

Anna Herbst has always loved to devote herself to ancient and contemporary music. She is regularly invited to Zurich for world premieres ( Oh Vielgeliebte 2011, Eros 2012, Beim Hut des Hermes 2013 and Eva 2015). 2014, it was with the Mysteries of the Macabre of György Ligeti of the large broadcasting hall WDR heard in Cologne.

She has been a member of the international elite studio at Theater Lübeck since the 2014/2015 season .

In 2019 she sang the title role in Franz Danksagmüller's chamber opera Nova - Imperfecting Perfection at the German Evangelical Church Congress 2019 in Dortmund.
