Anna Joubin-Bret

Anna Joubin-Bret (born February 2, 1962 ) is a French lawyer and since 2017 Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and Director of the Commercial Law Department (ITLD) in the legal affairs department (OLA) of the UN Secretariat .

education

Joubin-Bret graduated from 1979 to 1982 with a BA in International Relations at the Institut d'Études Politiques (Sciences-Po) , a Grande école in Lyon and a BA in private law at the University of Lyon III Jean-Moulin. In 1985 she obtained an MA in international commercial law and a Diplôme d'études approfondies in private international law from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne .

Career

Joubin-Bret started her professional career in 1983 as a legal advisor at the electronics company Schneider Electric , and in 1984 she moved to the French technology company KIS Group . From 1986 she was the foreign trade director of the French cable car manufacturer Pomagalski SA before moving to Geneva in 1996 for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) .

In March 1998 she was elected as district administrator for the Rhône-Alpes region.

In January 2012 she was admitted to the Paris bar and became a partner in the Paris office of the US law firm Foley Hoag LLP specializing in arbitration in international commercial law. In May 2013 she left the cooperation and worked exclusively in her law firm Cabinet Joubin-Bret , which was founded in May 2012 . Here, too, she worked on international arbitration proceedings and carried out mediation and conciliation proceedings under ICC, ICSID and UNCITRAL rules. She advised governments on international investment negotiations and legislative processes.

Joubin-Bret has worked as a lecturer in commercial law at universities and institutes around the world, was a judge at the French Commercial Court in Grenoble and a member of the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

She is the author and editor of a large number of publications on the subject of arbitration, as well as international trade and investment law.

In November 2017, Joubin-Bret became Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and Director of the Commercial Law Department (ITLD) in Legal Affairs (OLA) of the UN Secretariat.
