Pomagalski , better known as POMA , is a French cable car manufacturer based in Voreppe , Isère near Grenoble .

The product range of Pomagalski includes all facilities of the cable car construction, of funiculars on aerial tramways , of gondolas on chair lifts to drag lifts , ropeways and cable cranes . According to its own information, POMA has built over 7800 systems in 73 countries and is one of the world market leaders in cable car construction . POMA's most important competitor is the Austrian-Swiss Doppelmayr Garaventa Group . The Leitner AG was also a major competitor until Michael Seeber, the owner of Leitner AG, in 2000 took over the shares of Pomagalski SA.

Corporate structure

The Pomagalski company forms a strategic partnership with the cable car manufacturer Leitner based in Sterzing (South Tyrol / Italy). In North America, both companies appear together as Leitner Poma of America and Leitner Poma Canada . The French Pomagalski has numerous subsidiaries and representative offices in various countries around the world. These include in particular:

  • Leitner Poma of America in Grand Junction (Colorado) , USA , which manufacture cable cars for North America, Australia and New Zealand;
  • Agudio spa in Leini ' , Torino, an Italian company founded in 1861, which today focuses on funiculars and special transport systems;
  • Sigma Composite in Veyrins , Isère, the group's cabin and body builder;
  • SEMER in Le Fayet , Haute-Savoie, who supply the automation and electronic equipment;
  • COMAG in Bourg-Saint-Maurice , Savoie, which carries out the civil engineering and installation of the cable cars.

Company history

The Pomagalski SA was founded in 1947 by Jean Pomagalski in Fontaine, a suburb of Grenoble. The platter lifts had in the early years the largest share of the production that was soon extended to other systems.

When Michael Seeber took over the shares, the company name was changed to Pomagalski and the Société anonyme (SA) was converted into a Société par actions simplifiée (SAS).

POMA's most famous facilities include the 1958 built cable car to the Aiguille du Midi , the 1973 renewed cable car to the Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro , the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway in Australia opened in 1995 , the Vanoise Express with the largest two-story cabin in Europe, the TelefériQo in Quito with the highest mountain station in the world at the time of opening and the new construction of the Roosevelt Island Tramway in New York .

POMA manufactured the glazed viewing platform for the British Airways i360 observation tower in Brighton, southern England, which was completed in 2016 .
