Anna Chen , née Anna Krauja ( November 10, 1981 in Riga ) is a Latvian opera singer ( lyric soprano ).

Life

Born and raised in Riga, Anna Krauja was the first Latvian child to be named the International Mini Miss in 1993 in the Latvian National Theater . During her performance she sang a song by the Latvian composer Imants Kalniņš and received the audience award for it . This success encouraged her to become a singer even in her childhood.

Anna Krauja received her training at the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols with Kristīne Gailīte and at the Sibelius Academy with Marjut Hannula. In 2007 she appeared at the Latvian National Opera in the role of Achille in the opera Deidamia under the conductor Māris Kupčs. In 2009 she played Dalinda in the opera Ariodante under Markus Lehtinen at the Alexandertheater Helsinki . As a soloist, chamber musician and tutor, she was also a guest at the Beigang International Music Festival in Taiwan in 2009 .

In addition to her classical singing career, she also had an engagement in a musical in 2008 and played the role of the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the Riga Daile Theater .

Anna Chen is married to the Austrian pianist Heinz Chen , with whom she also performs. The couple lives in Berlin.
