International music festival Beigang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beigang International Music Festival ( Chinese : 北港 國際 音樂 文化 藝術 節) is a project of the Beigang Philharmonic Association ( Chinese : 雲林 縣 北港 愛樂 協會) and was launched in 2006 and has been expanded year after year since then. It is now the largest international music festival in Yunlin County , Taiwan . The festival offers a series of concerts, mostly with brass music (solo, chamber music and orchestral) and an educational project as part of the Chia-Hu Conservatory ( Chinese : 陳家 湖 音樂 學院) in Beigang. In addition, an intercultural program for the invited musicians from different countries is offered. The artistic director of the festival is the pianist Heinz Chen .

Addition

The township of Beigang is known for the Chaotian Temple , the main temple of the goddess Mazu . Apart from the religious holidays, however, the cultural life was idle, which is why the Beigang Philharmonic Association decided to create a music festival and to liven up the city's music scene. The center of the festival is Beigang, because this is where most of the concerts take place, as well as the entire teaching project and rehearsals with the Beigang Wind Orchestra.

history

District Administrator Su Ji-Feng opened the first Beigang International Music Festival in 2006

The precursor to the “Beigang International Music Festival” was the “Beigang Music Festival”, which took place in 2005. In 2006, Heinz Chen was appointed artistic director of the festival and was commissioned to raise the series of events to an international level. Since then, the festival has enjoyed great popularity among audiences, the media and local politicians. District Administrator Su Ji-Feng has attended the festival every year since 2005. In 2007 the rector of the Detmold University of Music , Martin Christian Vogel , also visited the festival in Beigang.

concept

Most of the concert series takes place in Beigang. There are also performances in Douliu and Sinying. The event offers classical occidental music (the so-called " serious music "). But there were also various events with light music , such as the open air concert under the motto “Cultural Interaction Night” or the “Club Concert” in a local restaurant. The orchestral project will be presented in the final concert of the two-week festival. The festival sees itself not only as an art and music event, but also as an intercultural and, above all, a social commitment: all concerts are free of admission fees. In addition, the educational project is also free, which is used by many children interested in music.

Sponsors

Beigang International Music Festival's supporters include Beigang City and Yunlin County, as well as the Taipei Government's Ministry of Culture. Music brands like Jupiter Instruments and Kawai are also sponsors of the festival. In addition, the Chaotian Temple is one of the financial supporters as well as several local companies. The 2009 festival is also financially supported by the Sibelius Academy .
