Anna Todd (born 1989 ) is an American writer . She achieved international success with her series of romantic novels entitled After .

Career

Anna Todd published her first novel in 2013 under the pseudonym "Imaginator1D" as fan fiction on the Wattpad website , a social media platform for authors and readers. As the main character she chose Harry Styles , the singer of the British-Irish boy band One Direction , which made her novel on the platform especially popular among young readers. She told the story of a young college student who fell in love with a tattooed outsider whom she named Hardin Scott. After a year and a half, the story had grown to 2,500 pages and had been viewed more than a billion times on the platform.

In 2014 she got an author's contract with Gallery Books , an imprint of Simon & Schuster , while the original story remained available on the Wattpad platform. Gallery Books published the novel in four parts, which appeared in quick succession. The film rights were sold to the United Talent Agency (UTA) and later to Paramount Pictures . Against the book and the filming, there were protests from fans of the band One Direction, who see the image of Styles and his band damaged by the publication and assume that Anna Todd wants to enrich herself at their expense.

The books have been translated internationally and also became bestsellers in Germany , where they were published by Heyne Verlag every few months in 2015 . After its publication in February 2015, the German translation of the first volume After Passion rose to the top 10 of the Spiegel bestseller list in the paperback / fiction category and rose to third place on February 21, 2015, where it remained for several weeks. After truth , published in March 2015, even reached number 1 on the list after a few weeks on April 18, 2015, and After love entered the top position on June 20, 2015 after publication. All three volumes remained in the top 10 of the list for several weeks and were sometimes in the top positions together. The fourth volume After Forever was released on August 10, 2015.
