Anna of Braunschweig-Lüneburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (* December 6, 1502 in Celle ; † November 6, 1568 in Stettin ) was a princess of Braunschweig-Lüneburg and by marriage Duchess of Pomerania .

Life

Anna was a daughter of Duke Heinrich I of Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1468–1532) from his marriage to Margarete (1469–1528), daughter of Elector Ernst of Saxony .

She married Duke Barnim IX in Stettin on February 2, 1525 . of Pomerania (1501–1573). On the occasion of the marriage, Barnim made a protective alliance with Anna's father. For her dowry of 12,000 guilders, Anna Amt and Stadt Stolp were assured as Wittum, which was changed to the Amt of Rügenwalde in 1536 . Duchess Anna died before her husband in 1568, so these provisions did not apply. She was buried in the Szczecin Ottenkirche .

Anna was one of the strongest opponents of her brother-in-law Georg , through whom she discriminated against Barnim in the government, and through whose marriage intentions with Margarete from Brandenburg she saw her position at risk. Anna thus became a driving force behind the division of the brothers and the division of Pomerania in 1532.
