Anna von Munzingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna von Munzingen († 1327 ) was a German Dominican and prioress in the Adelhausen monastery in Freiburg . It is attributed to the movement of women's mysticism .

Almost nothing is known about the life of Anna von Munzingen: She came from a Freiburg patrician family and was first mentioned in 1316 and subsequently in 1317 and 1327 as the prioress of the Freiburg Dominican convent. Around 1318 she wrote a book of sisters under the title book of the life of the blessed first sisters of the cloister our frowen de annuntiatione in Adelhusen by Friburg, preacher order , which became known as the "Chronicle of the Mystics of Adelhausen". As with other sisters 'books, it is less an actual chronicle than a hagiographical collection of over 30 saints' lives from selected fellow sisters, which provides an insight into the mysticism and life in medieval women's convents.

The “Chronicle” is preserved in a single copy from 1433 in the Freiburg City Archives (signature B 1 No. 98).
