Annabel Breuer (born October 23, 1992 in Tübingen ) is a German wheelchair fencer and wheelchair basketball player .

life and career

Breuer was paralyzed as a child in a car accident . At the age of 13 she won a silver medal in fencing at the 2006 World Championships in Turin . At the European Championships in Warsaw in 2009 she won gold in the team competition, silver and bronze in the individual competition. As a result, at the age of 16, she was awarded the special prize for junior sportswoman of the year in disabled sports by the German Sports Aid Foundation .

A friend won her for wheelchair basketball . She played for SKV Ravensburg and Sabers Ulm in the German wheelchair basketball league. From December 2012 she also played for RSV Lahn-Dill . With the national team , she won gold at the 2011 European Championship in Nazareth , where the team defeated the Netherlands in the final 48:42. At the Summer Paralympics 2012 in London , the team won gold by beating Australia 44:58 in front of over 12,000 spectators in the North Greenwich Arena . It was the first victory of a German team in the discipline in 28 years. After the games in London, Federal President Joachim Gauck honored the team with Germany's highest honor in sport, the Silver Laurel Leaf , in November 2012 . The mayor of Ulm, Ivo Gönner , congratulated her on the success, and she signed the city's golden book .
