Annabel's

Annabel’s is a London night club . Dubbed the “symbol of decadence”, it was the first London nightclub to be open exclusively to club members and their guests. Annabel's is known as the “preferred night club of the aristocracy”. It is the only nightclub that the British Queen Elizabeth II has ever visited.

history

Annabel's was founded in 1963 by London entrepreneur Marcus "Mark" Birley . He named the club after his (then) wife, Lady Annabel Goldsmith . The club rooms have been located in the basement of a building on Berkeley Square in the London borough of Mayfair since it was founded . Initially there was a connection to the private casino, the Clermont Club, located in the same building : Annabel's was intended to give casino guests the opportunity to visit a nightclub before or after their stay in the casino , in private . The exclusivity and a private environment were one of the outstanding features of the club from the start, and the operator attached great importance to maintaining them.

Annabel's quickly became an attraction for London's high society . Members of the British royal family were members of the club as well as international business people, politicians and film stars. In the 1990s, interest in the club, which is increasingly considered to be dusty, temporarily waned. After the turn of the millennium, Annabel's became more attractive again as a result of a renovation, with members of the new rich and the money nobility making up the majority of club members today. The British press commented the change in clientele as "the invasion of Euro trash". Annabel's still regularly organizes parties and concerts for its members, with international show stars. Among others, Tina Turner , Ray Charles , Ella Fitzgerald , Diana Ross and Lady Gaga played here , who greeted her audience with the words "Hello rich people".

In 2003 the daughter and son of the founder, Mark Birley, took over the management of the club. In 2007 Birley sold Annabel's to the British entrepreneur Richard Caring , who continues the concept of the club unchanged. The rumored purchase price was £ 90 million. and included three other nightclubs including Harry's Bar in London.

Club members
