history

Restored statue of Johannes Nepomuk currently near the Frankenfels parish church (2012)

Originally there was a cross on the site, which was later replaced by the chapel. There was also a statue of Johannes von Nepomuk erected in 1708 , which was moved to Frankenfels in 1961 on the initiative of Pastor Josef Stangl and was located near the war memorial and the Frankenfels parish church .

On September 26, 1895 there was an unsolved criminal case: the Frankenfels sacristan Johann Auer from the Steinschallmühle was found dead and partially robbed of his money below the Anna cross. He had previously visited his sponsored children and was in a happy mood because of his alcohol consumption. Anton Falkensteiner, called Plank-Toni, from the Haarstubenhäusl, who was in financial difficulties and was seen by witnesses on the Höhenweg, was suspected. However, he stated that he walked on the new road. In the end, however, the act could not be proven to him due to a lack of evidence and he was released after six months of pre-trial detention. However, it may have been just an accident as the victim's silver coins and watch were still in place. An inscription in the chapel commemorates the incident.

In 1980 the chapel was restored by the population of Weißenburg under the direction of Aloisia Kramberger and consecrated by Pastor Josef Wagner and Pastor Goldgruber.

Others
