history

The church was built in Romanesque style in 1290 under the patronage of the respective owners of Weissenburg Castle. They also provided for the maintenance of the priests. Initially, the parish of Frankenfels was subordinate to the parish of Kilb until it became independent in 1429. In accordance with this status, a new, larger choir with a bell tower was added in the middle of the 15th century.

In 1580 the Evangelical Lutheran pastor Thomas Kreblacher is mentioned in Frankenfels . Not until 1641 is a Catholic pastor named Elisäus Klett found again, since Count Gotthard von Tattenbach now resided at the Weißenburg. He died in 1649 and was buried with his wife Sarah Sophia in the church's crypt, whereupon a splendid epitaph made of red marble commemorates.

From 1723 to 1727 the building was enlarged by the aristocratic Liechtenstein family by adding a nave with a nave and two side altars and redesigned it in Baroque style. In 1777 the current high altar was rebuilt. The current altar painting was not added until 1858. The Schwarzenbach an der Pielach area , which was then part of the Frankenfels parish, became independent in 1787. In 1804 the parish Puchenstuben von Frankenfels was dissolved and became independent.

In 1858 the church was modernized.

Between 1885 and 1894 the parsonage, the farm building and the church were renovated, with the bell tower also being raised and given a neo-baroque finish.

The historicizing glass paintings date from 1911. Around this time, the depiction of the Stations of the Cross in the late Nazarene style was also added .

Some houses in today's municipal area in the Tiefgrabenrotte and Wiesrotte belonged to the parish of St. Gotthard and the parish of Plankenstein (both in the municipality of Texingtal ) until the second half of the 20th century .

The last major renovation took place in 1996. On September 1, 1996, the work was completed and the new pastor Alois Brunner was introduced. The exterior renovation was completed in 1997. Between 2010 and 2012 the parish hall was built, which is called House of the Middle .
