Anne Geelhaar

Anne Geelhaar (born April 5, 1914 in Teichrode , Bomst district , Prussia, today Siedlec, Poland, † April 12, 1998 in Berlin ) was a German children's book author . She also wrote scripts for episodes of Our Sandman and for the DEFA children's film The Singing, Sounding Tree . She was the recipient of the Theodor Körner Prize , the Alex Wedding Prize and the Patriotic Order of Merit .

Life

Anne Geelhaar (born as the daughter of the magistrate's employee Heinrich Pelchen, 1878–1964) went to school in Magdeburg, where she trained as a typesetter, from 1932 as an editorial trainee, worked 1950–1957 in Berlin as an editor for the ABC newspaper , later as a freelance author. She wrote over 35 children's books, over four million copies of which were published, mainly in the GDR.
