Anne Smith (athlete)
Anne Smith ( Anne Rosemary Smith; born August 31, 1941 in Amersham , † November 9, 1993 in London ) was a British middle-distance runner .
In 1964 she was eighth over 800 m at the Olympic Games in Tokyo , and in 1966 she won bronze over 880 yards for England at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston .
At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , she was tenth over 1500 m and eliminated over 800 m in the run.
In 1967 she set a world record in the mile run with 4: 37.0 min and a world record over 1500 m with an intermediate time of 4: 17.3 min. It was the first women's world records recognized by the IAAF over these distances.
From 1964 to 1967 she was English champion over 880 yards four times in a row.
