life and work

Annett Zinsmeister studied art , architecture , cultural and media studies in Stuttgart and Berlin after several years of design practice . In 1997 she received her diploma at the Berlin University of the Arts . She is a professor of design at the Frankfurt University of Applied Science .

In her work, Annett Zinsmeister combines different disciplines (art, architecture, design, science) and uses different media and formats. Interdisciplinary publications combine artistic practice and theoretical discourse . The cultural formation and constitution of space and living environment are central issues and are negotiated in spatial installations , conceptual and built spaces, in photographs , drawings , collages , in short films and in theoretical treatises.

The artist works with space and architecture, with found structures and elements (modules), which she detaches from conventional contexts and combines to create new spaces and compositions. Deconstruction and recombination, decoding and reprogramming, structuralism and appropriation are some of their strategies. The investigation of perceptual processes, social interaction, communication and the transformation of urban spatial situations, as well as the examination of utopias and the identity content of architecture, space and everyday objects are central themes in her artistic and theoretical work. The artistic works open up new perspectives on inhospitable, deserted places and initiate processes of urban interventions and transformations. Zinsmeister's installations challenge the viewer's perception , expose everyday habits and reveal the antagonism of utopian approaches and our social and built environment.

Annett Zinsmeister is a member of the German Association of Artists .
