Johanna Koning

Johanna "Ans" Koning , after marriage to Hofmeester , (born March 27, 1923 in The Hague ; † July 22, 2006 in Capelle aan den IJssel ) was a Dutch athlete . In 1946 she won the bronze medal in the javelin throw at the European Championships.

Ans Koning was the Dutch javelin throwing champion in 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950 and 1952.

At the first European championships after the Second World War, which took place in Oslo in 1946, the Dutch women's team was very strong, Fanny Blankers-Koen and Gerda van der Kade-Koudijs each won two gold medals, one of them together in the relay. But also the discus thrower Ans Niesink and Ans Koning in the javelin throw contributed to the medal balance . Ans Koning threw her personal best of 44.28 meters in qualification. In the final, she threw the spear to 43.24 meters and won bronze behind Klawdija Majutschaja and Lyudmila Anokina from the Soviet Union.

In London at the Olympic Games in 1948 Koning reached 40.33 meters, which she finished 6th. At the European Championships in 1950 she reached 9th place with 38.20 meters.

Ans Koning was married to Harry Hofmeester, the long-time director of the Ahoy event center in Rotterdam.
