Ansgar Josef Niebuhr (* 1968 ) is a German director and animator .

Life

As an animator he initially worked in Hamburg for productions for the cinema such as Felidae (as a supporting draftsman for Hayo Friday's nightmare sequence), Werner - Das muss kesseln !!! , Walter Moers' Little Asshole and other children's and family entertainment feature films.

Later, for example, Niebuhr drew as an animator and lead animator for the opening credits of the German animation series Max and Moritz and took on the character design and animation direction for the 3D part of the film Die Hollies . The Hollies were produced for the children's channel in Halle an der Saale by the Motionworks company and combine entertainment with environmental protection issues .

He drew as a storyboard artist for films such as the Luxembourg production Die neue Abenteuer von Reineke Fuchs or the German production Das kleine Arschloch und der alten Sack - Die ist Scheiße by Walter Moers . The Australian TV series Rocket & Me , for which he created storyboards , received an Emmy Award in 2008 for new approaches to children's entertainment.

Ansgar Niebuhr worked as episode director for the animation series TKKG (still in production) and, together with Hubert Weiland , Alan Simpson and Xu Zhi-Jian, directed Princess Lillifee and Princess Lillifee and the little unicorn .

Princess Lillifee in particular is often perceived as anti-emancipatory, but the figure of the princess should be understood in narratives for children as a metaphor for a future successful woman, rather than as an dependent girl. Rather, it is the archetypal Cinderella that fosters fantasies of being married by a prince. As an archetype, the princess is the future ruler of the country.

The films address topics such as overcoming difficulties on your own, because Lillifee has to recognize that the vain 'beautiful magic' does not solve the problems in the country. Only through dedication and persistence without magical powers does she overcome the obstacles.

Princess Lillifee and the little unicorn was awarded the title “valuable” by the German film and media rating.
