Antonio Paulo Kassoma

António Paulo Kassoma (born June 6, 1951 in Rangel ) is an Angolan politician and currently President of the country's parliament.

Life

Born in Rangel, a municipality in the Luanda metropolitan area , Kassoma studied electromechanics .

From 1978 to 1979 Kassoma was Deputy Minister of Defense for Arms and Technology in the government of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA). He was then Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications from 1988 to 1989, and then Minister for Transport and Communications from 1989 to 1992. Then on April 9, 1992, he was transferred to the post of Minister for Territorial Administration.

Kassoma later served as Governor of Huambo Province and First Secretary of the MPLA in Huambo Province. On February 11, 2002, Kassoma offered white farmers in Zimbabwe who had lost their farms as a result of land reform the opportunity to settle and grow corn on 10,000 hectares of abandoned farmland in Huambo. According to Kassoma, this could have contributed to Huambo's economic development. At the Fifth Ordinary Congress of the MPLA in December 2003, Kassoma was elected to the Politburo.

On September 26, 2008, Kassoma was elected Prime Minister by the MPLA's Politburo after the MPLA won parliamentary elections as the successor to Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos .

With the new Angolan constitution in February 2010, the office of Vice President was replaced by that of Prime Minister. The office of prime minister was abolished. Kassoma then became President of the National Assembly.
