Antanas Stancevičius

Antanas Stancevičius (born January 8, 1920 in Lomiai near Batakiai , Tauragė district ; † August 24, 2007 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian agronomist and botanist , professor and honorary doctor of the Lietuvos žemės ūkio universitetas , president of Žemės ūkio rūmai .

Life

At the age of five he lost his mother and after a year and a half his father. He studied at the Raseiniai high school . In 1943 he graduated from the Žemės ūkio akademija in Dotnuva . From 1941 he worked at the Dotnuva research institute. In 1942 he became an assistant in the research institute for crop production . After the Soviet occupation, he worked in Alytus , from 1944 as director of the state farm in Aniškis . From 1946 he conducted research at the Department of Botany of Lietuvos žemės ūkio akademija . In 1958 he received his doctorate in agrophytocenology on the subject of "Lietuvos pasėlių augalija, jos reikšmė agronominei dirvožemiocharistikai". He then headed a chair as a professor from 1962 to 1992.

From 1991 to 2000 he was head of Žemės ūkio rūmai (Ž LeiterR), from 2000 honorary president of ŽŪR. He was a board member of Lietuvos agronomų sąjunga, chairman of the Lietuvos herbologų draugija association and the Lietuvos žemės ūkio kooperatyvų asociacija association , member of EWRS and ISTRO .

September 1994 he received an honorary doctorate from Lietuvos žemės ūkio akademija .

He was married (from 1943). His wife was Natalija Dumbliauskaitė.

Awards

In 1997 he was awarded the Gediminas Order (5th grade) and in 2005 the “Lietuvos kaimo spindulys” award.
