Antas do Pinheiro do Campo
The Antas do Pinheiro do Campo lie on both sides of the road, about 1.2 km northeast of São Sebastião da Giesteira , in the west of the Évora district in the Alentejo in Portugal . Anta or dolmen is the Portuguese name for around 5000 megalithic structures that were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the cardial or imprint culture .
Anta 1 is east of the road. The capstone of the Anta is still intact, but has collapsed into the partially collapsed polygonal chamber that lies in the remains of its mound. A telegraph pole leans against one of the bearing stones.
Anta 2 was studied by the archaeologist Gabriel Pereira at the end of the 19th century. It is located under a fig tree about 300 meters west of the road, is larger and in better condition. A dirt road with a cattle fence leads to the megalithic complex . The Anta is a dolmen with a passage and its capstone is in situ .
