The stiffness mayweed ( Anthemis rigida ) is a plant from the genus of Anthemis ( Anthemis ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

Stiff dog chamomile ( Anthemis rigida )

Anthemis rigida is an annual stem therophyte that reaches heights of 3 to 15 centimeters. The ray florets are absent or sterile. The chaff leaves are lanceolate to obverse-wedge-shaped and membranous. The shell is cylindrical to obverse-shaped. The bracts are all pointed and have no or only a very narrow skin edge. When the plant is fruiting, the head stalks are thickened and bent back.

The flowering period extends from February to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

Anthemis rigida occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean . Their distribution area includes Sicily, Greece, the Aegean with Crete, Turkey and Cyprus. The species grows on sandy and rocky coasts, hedgehog cushion heaths , pioneer sites and sinkholes .

Systematics

Three subspecies can be distinguished:

Anthemis rigida subsp. ammanthiformis (Greuter & Rech. f.) Greuter : It occurs only in Greece.
Anthemis rigida subsp. liguliflora (Halácsy) Greuter : It occurs in Greece and Crete.
Anthemis rigida subsp. rigida .
