Anthocercis viscosa is a plant type from the genus Anthocercis in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is endemic to Western Australia . In English, the species is called "Sticky Tailflower".

description

Antocercis viscosa is an upright or sometimes broad-growing to sprawling shrub with a height of up to 3 m. It is hairy and sticky with glandular trichomes . The leaves are inversely ovate to ovate and almost sessile. They are 20 to 30 mm long and 10 to 30 mm wide, the leaf margin is finely serrated and notched.

The inflorescences are stalked cymes with one to three flowers . The flower stalks are 5 to 15 mm long. The length of the calyx is 3 to 15 mm, that of the crown 20 to 48 mm. The crown is white to creamy white in color and has green or purple stripes. The corolla lobes are ovate-triangular to linear and 12 to 25 mm long, they too are sometimes striped pale purple. The stamens are 4.5 to 12.5 mm long.

The fruit is an egg-shaped to elliptical capsule that ends in a pointed or pointed shape. It becomes 8 to 19 mm long. The seeds reach a length of 1.8 to 3 mm.

Distribution and locations

The species is endemic to southern western Australia . It grows westward along the coasts of Cape Arid . The plants can always be found in the vicinity of outcrops made of granite .

Systematics

Two subspecies are distinguished within the species:

  • Anthocercis viscosa subsp. viscosa
  • Anthocercis viscosa subsp. cudata Haegi

The subspecies differ mainly in the size and shape of the flowers. Anthocercis viscosa subsp. viscosa has larger flowers, the corolla lobes are relatively broader and, compared to the corolla tube, shorter than in Anthocercis viscosa subsp. cudata .

meaning

The species is suspected of causing poisoning in farm animals.
