Anthony Michael Pilla

Anthony Michael Pilla (born November 12, 1932 in Cleveland ) is Old Bishop of Cleveland .

Life

Anthony Michael Pilla was ordained a priest on May 23, 1959 .

Pope John Paul II named him Auxiliary Bishop in Cleveland and Titular Bishop of Scardona on June 30, 1979 . He received his episcopal ordination on August 1 of that year by the Bishop of Cleveland, James Aloysius Hickey ; Co- consecrators were Clarence George Issenmann , Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland, and Joseph Abel Francis SVD , Auxiliary Bishop of Newark .

After Bishop Hickey's appointment as Archbishop of Washington , he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Cleveland on July 29, 1980 . He was named Bishop of Cleveland on November 13, 1980, and inducted into the office on January 6 of the next year. He resigned from his office on April 4, 2006.
