Anthony de Mello (born September 4, 1931 in Santa Cruz , Bombay , India , † June 1, 1987 in New York , USA ) was a Jesuit priest and spiritual teacher.

overview

Anthony de Mello studied philosophy, theology and psychology and founded the Sadhana Institute in Lonavia (originally: Institute of Pastoral Counseling and Spirituality at de Nobili College in Pune , India).

Above all else, Anthony de Mello was a multicultural teacher who conveyed practical wisdom and stories from all religious teachings in a humorous way.

According to a notification from the Holy See in 1998, he had increasingly distanced himself from the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Son of God and the relevance of the Holy Scriptures , so that parts of de Mellos' teaching are "incompatible with the Catholic faith and can cause serious damage."
