Antoine Joseph Bourlard (born June 30, 1826 in Mons ; † August 24, 1899 ibid) was a Belgian painter of historical pictures , landscapes and genre scenes, as well as etchers and sculptors.

Bourlard was from 1838 to 1846 a student of Antoon Van Ysendyck (1801–1875) at the art school in Mons. From 1846 he studied at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Thomas Couture . He helped his master with the "Roman orgy" that couture exhibited in the 1847 salon. He stayed in Paris until 1851.

In 1854 he traveled to Rome , attracted by the Roman countryside. After his painting “La Rome enchaînée” (Rome chained in) in 1860, exhibited in the Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, which angered political circles, Bourlard moved away from Rome and found refuge in Anticoli Corrado until 1875 .

Back in Mons, he exhibited his most important Italian works in the Salon des Beaux-Arts in May 1876. He was appointed director of the Mons Art School in 1879. As an enthusiast of Italian art and culture, he was called "il signor Antonio".
