Antoine Sfeir

Antoine Sfeir, 2006

Antoine Sfeir (born November 25, 1948 in Beirut ; † October 1, 2018 ) was a French - Lebanese journalist and professor .

He was editor of the French magazine Les Cahiers de l'Orient ("Orient-Hefte", a magazine dealing with the Middle East ), was President of the Center d'études et de réflexions sur le Proche-Orient and Professor of International Relationship at the Grande école CELSA (Center d'études littéraires et scientifiques appliquées) , which belongs to the Sorbonne University .

Along with Ayaan Hirsi Ali , Salman Rushdie and Ibn Warraq, he was one of the signatories of the Manifesto of the 12 , which called for "resistance against religious totalitarianism and the promotion of freedom, equal opportunities and secularism ".
