Antoine D. Winfield (* 24. June 1977 in Akron , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the cornerbacks . He played for the Buffalo Bills from 1999 to 2003 and for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL) from 2004 to 2012 . He was elected to the Pro Bowl three times during his career .

Career

college

Winfield played college football for the Buckeyes at Ohio State University . In his senior year, 1998, he won the Jim Thorpe Award , an award for best college defensive back .

NFL

He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft . At the Bills he got a place as a starter in the second season. During his time with the Bills, he managed to get 211 tackles and a sack .

The Minnesota Vikings became aware of the cornerback and signed him in 2004. In the first six seasons with the Vikings, he brought it to 434 tackles and three sacks. In 2006 he scored his first of five touchdowns . He was elected to the Pro Bowl in both 2008 and 2009 .

The American sports newspaper Sports Illustrated named Antoine Winfield 31st of the 500 best NFL players in 2007.

In March 2013, the Minnesota Vikings fired the cornerback for reasons of pay. The Seattle Seahawks signed Winfield for a year a month later. Even before the start of the regular season , Winfield announced his retirement from the NFL.
