Antoine de Vergy (* 1375 ; † October 29, 1439 ) was Count of Dammartin , Lord of Champlitte and Rigney , Chevalier, adviser and chamberlain to the King, and Marshal of France .

Life

He himself was wounded in the fighting for the murder of Duke John Fearless of Burgundy on September 10, 1419 in Montereau-Fault-Yonne . He allied himself with the English and was on January 22nd, 1422 by the English King Henry V , who for the French King Charles VI. led the reign, appointed Marshal of France. In 1430, Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy, the son of Johann Ohnefurchts, made him one of the founding members of the Order of the Golden Fleece . He was also governor of Burgundy , Champagne and Brie .

In 1423 he was among the victors in the Battle of Cravant , in which the troops of the new French king Charles VII (Charles VI and Henry V had died the year before, which had rekindled the hostilities) were defeated by the English. In 1431 he took part in the Battle of Bulgnéville , in which René of Anjou was defeated and captured by his cousin Anton von Vaudémont and the allied Burgundians.

family

He was the son of Jean III. de Vergy and Jeanne de Chalon and a member of the Vergy family . Antoine de Vergy was first married to Jeanne de Rigney, daughter of Hugues II, Seigneur de Rigney, and his second marriage to Guillemette de Vienne, daughter of Philippe, Seigneur de Persan . Both marriages remained childless.

His sister Marie was married to Count Konrad von Freiburg .
