Anton Albers the Elder
Anton Albers the Elder (born July 11, 1765 in Bremen , † December 6, 1844 in Lausanne ) was a German - Swiss painter .
Life
Anton Albers, son of Eltermann Johann Christoph Albers , first worked as a merchant in the wine trade in Bremen before giving up this job to devote himself entirely to painting. He traveled to Weimar, Italy, Spain, England and the Netherlands before settling in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1816. Under the influence of the paintings of Claude Lorrain Albers painted mainly Italian and Swiss landscapes . In 1843 he was made an honorary member of the Bremen Art Association. Individual works can be found in the magazine holdings of the Kunsthalle Bremen and the Focke Museum .
Johann Christoph Albers (malacologist) is one of his sons.
