Johann Christoph Albers , d. Ä., (Born January 6, 1741 in Bremen ; † December 13, 1800 in Bremen) was a German merchant .

biography

Johann Christoph Albers was born as the first of five children to the Bremen businessman Anton Albers and his wife Sophie Catharine Bussmann. He further expanded his father's commercial activities and made the Albers merchant house in Bremen one of the dominant trading houses for centuries. Among other things, he was the senior man of the merchants in Bremen. On June 28, 1763 he married Maria Catharina Retberg and established a close relationship between the two families. This was of commercial importance to the extent that the Retberg family themselves established an influential trading company in Bremen and Lippstadt .

Albers and his wife had a total of twelve children, a number of whom later held influential positions. Important are Anton Albers (1765–1844, merchant and later painter in Lausanne), Johann Abraham Albers (1772–1821, Dr. med. And city physician in Bremen), Johann Heinrich Albers (1774–1855, merchant in London and later art collector in Bremen), Johann Christoph Albers (1776–1828, businessman, Eltermann and electoral Hessian consul in Bremen, Langenstrasse, 1776–1828).
