Johann Heinrich Albers
Johann Heinrich Albers , (born September 14, 1774 in Bremen , † December 2, 1855 in Bremen) was a German merchant and patron .
Life
Albers was the son of his parents' husband, Johann Christoph Albers . He established himself as a merchant in London and traded mainly in indigo . From 1816 he lived in Bremen as an unmarried private citizen. Albers collected copperplate engravings and oil paintings - many of which he donated to the Kunstverein - and supported the construction of the Kunsthalle Bremen . He bequeathed 15,000 sheets of graphics to the Kunstverein , including some very valuable pieces.
The Bremen Kunsthalle is showing two paintings from the legacy of Johann Heinrich Albers: Boas and Ruth , 1651, by Gerbrand van den Eeckhout and Swedish Landscape , around 1660, by Allaert van Everdingen .
