Anton August Naaff (born as Anton Franz Naaff) (born November 28, 1850 in Weitentrebetitsch ; † December 27, 1918 in Vienna ) was a Bohemian-Austrian poet , writer and editor .

Life

Naaff was born in Weitentrebetitsch in 1850 as the son of the farmer Anton Naaff and his wife Theresia born. Donner († 1915 in Vienna) was born. His family had lived in the Podersam-Saaz area since 1550. He attended the lower secondary school in Saaz and the upper secondary school in Komotau. He then studied 1871-1874 jurisprudence at the Charles University in Prague and the University of Vienna . After Naaff was at times very seriously ill, he decided to become a writer. From 1875 he worked as an editor for the Deutsches Volksblatt . In 1879 he became head of the Teplitz-Schönauer Anzeiger .

In 1880 he moved to Vienna and from 1881 was editor and publisher of the music and literary newspaper Die Lyra . Wiener Allgemeine Zeitschrift for the literary and musical world . Naaff published numerous essays (for example a series Das deutsche Volkslied in Österreich ) and poems both in the Lyra and in other magazines . His poetry has also been published in anthologies and is often set to music. In addition to numerous other German and Austrian poets and musicians, his partner, the Bohemian-Austrian writer Marianne Eggersberg (born January 30, 1852 in Kaaden, † May 1938 in Vienna) published some of her poems and stories.

Naaff stood in 1906 as a candidate for the German National Party in the municipal elections in Vienna. In 1910, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, he received several awards. Among other things, he received the large Schubert Medal, the Karl Friedrich Zelter Medal and the honorary citizenship of the city of Komotau. In 1911 he handed over his newspaper "Die Lyra" to the general German singer association. Naaff died in Vienna on December 27, 1918. The Lyra-Chorverlag that he ran and his literary legacy were passed on to his long-time partner Marianne Naaff-Eggersberg. Their joint estate is now stored in the Vienna Library in the City Hall .

Naaff was an honorary citizen of the Bohemian cities of Brüx, Komotau and Willomitz.
