Anton Friedl (born March 14, 1958 in Sieggraben ) is an Austrian process engineer and university lecturer.

Life

Anton Friedl was born on March 14, 1958 in Sieggraben . He attended the HTBLA Eisenstadt specializing in mechanical engineering, from which he graduated in 1978. This was followed by studying technical chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology , which he graduated in 1984 with a degree in engineering. Anton Friedl rounded off the subsequent doctoral studies at the Vienna University of Technology on the subject of product separation in alcohol fermentations with a research stay at Massey University in New Zealand in 1989/90. In 1990 he was promoted to Dr. techn. PhD. From April 1990 to December 1990 Friedl attended the university course “Project Management in Export” at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

As an award for his dissertation, the “Academic-Social Working Group Austria” recognized him in 1991 as a mobility degree, which enabled him to do a post-doctoral stay at the University of California at Berkeley in the field of chemical engineering. There Friedl got to know the possibilities of process simulation, whereupon he introduced an objective lecture and exercise after his return to the Technical University of Vienna. At the end of 1991, at what was then the Institute for Process, Fuel and Environmental Technology at the Vienna University of Technology, he was offered the opportunity to set up the “Bioprocess Engineering and Membrane Technology” working group.

In 1995 Friedl completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Vienna in the field of process engineering with the text Selected Membrane Separation Processes in Biotechnology and Environmental Technology and at the same time took over the lectures in the field of "Thermal Process Engineering". In addition, his work area was further expanded in the field of "Thermal Process Engineering and Simulation". Between 1996 and 1999, Anton Friedl gained experience in industry as a project manager at the then Austrian company Austrian Energy and Environment-SGP / Waagner Biro of the VA-Tech group. The project he led comprised the construction of the first chicken manure incinerator based on a fluidized bed. The scope of the project also included the flue gas cleaning , the steam cycle with turbine and the condenser.

From the winter semester 1993 he taught at the Technical University of Vienna in the field of "thermal process engineering" and "process simulation". As part of his research projects, he dealt with the production of biofuels and bioenergy from renewable raw materials as well as energy efficiency. As a result of his research, he was awarded the professional title of "University Professor" on December 23, 2010. On November 1, 2013, he was appointed Professor of Process Engineering at the Institute for Process Engineering, Environmental Technology and Technical Biosciences at the Vienna University of Technology.

His research focus in the field of "Energy and Environment" is sustainable technologies, products and production as well as the efficient use of material use of resources. In the area of “Computational Science and Engineering” he deals with the research fields of modeling and simulation.

From 2014 to 2018 Anton Friedl was director of the Institute for Process Engineering, Environmental Technology and Technical Biosciences at the Technical University of Vienna. To date, he has written more than 220 scientific papers and registered a number of patents.
