Heldwein am Graben in Vienna

The jeweler Anton Heldwein has been one of the most renowned jewelers in Austria since it was founded in 1902 . The core business is located at Graben  13 / Bräunerstraße in the first Viennese district of Inner City .

history

The Heldwein family probably came from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in the Palatinate. Anton Heldwein (1865–1937) was trained as a goldsmith at the Viennese company Gebrüder Schwippel from 1879 to 1883 and then worked as a master and manager at the jeweler Julius Hügler . In 1902 he made the decision to set up his own business with his wife Charlotte. Charlotte Heldwein was born in Siess and came from an influential Viennese jeweler family, who probably provided the necessary support.

In the year it was founded, Heldwein was represented with its own stand at the winter exhibition in the Imperial and Royal Austrian Museum of Applied Art. Heldwein designed many of his works himself, but also worked closely with well-known artists from the Wiener Werkstätte such as Otto Prutscher , Franz Delavill , Karl Witzmann and Dagobert Peche . The meteoric rise of the company finally brought Heldwein the title of kuk court jeweler in 1906 . The main customer, however, was Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este , who was happy to order small gifts such as silver picture frames from Heldwein. Presumably, the proximity to the heir to the throne was one of the reasons why Heldwein was able to achieve the title of purveyor to the court so quickly.

After old Heldwein's death, his son Hans took over the business. During the Second World War , Hans had to go to the front, his brother Walter managed the business. In 1940 the business moved from Milchgasse to its current location in Graben / Bräunerstraße. In 1945 the business was completely looted by Russian soldiers, and the company found it difficult to get back on its feet. In 1971 Karl Hans Heldwein took over the business; his son Anton is the fourth generation to run it.

In addition to the traditional assortment of jewelery and gold jewelry, the shop also offers watches and silver goods as well as service. Heldwein also offers replicas from the Wiener Werkstätte.
