Anton Josef Pepino

Anton Josef Pepino (born September 21, 1863 in Vienna ; † October 5, 1921 near Heidenau , Saxony ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Pepino was born Josef Hirsch Gold and converted to Roman Catholicism in 1889. Pepino studied painting in Vienna with Anton Schrödl and in Italy. He worked as a painter of portraits, still lifes and landscapes. After initially working in Vienna, he worked in Dresden from 1889, where he became a teacher at the Royal Art Academy . From 1900 Pepino had his studio in the Loschwitz artist house . He died in an accident.

Pepino was with Magdalene Adelheid Agnes Elisabeth, geb. von Mach (1871–1943), the sister of the painter Hildegard von Mach . Jan Pepino (1898–1975), the librarian and director of the Dresden City Libraries, was their son.
