Anton Karg

Anton Karg (born November 1, 1835 in Kufstein ; † April 23, 1919 just there) was mayor of the city of Kufstein and pioneer of the tourist development of the Kaiser Mountains in Tyrol .

Life

Karg was administrator of the municipal poor fund in Kufstein and from 1866 a member of the citizens' committee of the city. In that year he also founded the Kufsteiner Gymnastics Club, from which the volunteer fire brigade, which he led for twelve years, emerged . From 1878 to 1882 he was the first mayor of Kufstein.

As an enthusiastic mountaineer in the Kaiser Mountains, Karg founded the Kufstein Alpine Club Section (at that time the Unterinntal section ) in 1877 , was its deputy chairman from 1884, also her hut warden from 1888 and finally chairman from 1900 to 1919. During his time on the board, he laid out the central hiking trails to the Stripsenjochhaus and to the Hinterbärenbad mountain hut - later named after him - as well as the reconstruction of this hut after a fire in 1899. He also made a name for himself as a photographer.

Honors

Karg is an honorary citizen of the city of Kufstein and namesake of the Alpine Club Hut Anton-Karg-Haus . He was honorary captain of the Kufstein fire brigade, honorary chairman of the Kufstein Alpine Club section and honorary member of the Neuötting section and of the Munich Alpine Club .
