Anton Lendzion

Anton Lendzion (pl. Antoni Lendzion ; born July 10, 1888 in Sampława , Löbau district ; † March 22, 1940 in the Stutthof concentration camp ) was a Polish activist in the Free City of Danzig and a victim of National Socialism .

After the death of his father, Anton Lendzion lived with his uncle in Thorn and trained as a tailor there. In 1908 he moved to Danzig and started his own business as a tailor.

In Gdansk he became an active member of the small Polish community. In 1911 he became president of the Danzig branch of the Polish trade unions. During the First World War he served in the German army. During the November Revolution in 1918 he was a member of the Danzig Soldiers' Council. Even after the Free City of Danzig was formed, he was politically active. As a representative of the Polish party, he was elected to the People's Day in Gdansk in 1927 , in the People's Day in Gdansk in 1930 and again (after a break from 1933 to 1935) in 1935 in the People's Day , the Danzig parliament.

He was vice president of the Polish municipalities and board member of many Polish organizations.

On September 1st, he was arrested by the National Socialists. First he was taken to the Viktoriaschule in Danzig and later to the Stutthof concentration camp. There he was shot together with other political prisoners on Good Friday 1940. The bodies were exhumed in 1947 and transferred to the Cmentarz na Zaspie cemetery in Gdańsk .
